In high-volume manufacturing, you need tooling that can go the distance.

When Henry Holsters brought us their molds, the objective was straightforward: increase wear resistance to handle the constant heat and pressure of injection molding. These molds are the backbone of their operation, and the more they can endure, the more holsters stay moving out the door.

For this project, we started with a test piece to dial in the specs before moving to the production molds. While we don’t require a sample run, we offer it as a way to show exactly what our lasers can do on your specific material and part geometry.

Proving the Process

Moving from test to production allows for total precision. By hardening a sample piece first, we were able to:

  • Dial in the specs: Fine-tune the laser’s path to hit only the selective areas that endure the most abrasion.
  • See the surface: Provide a firsthand look at the precision and metallurgical change before touching the primary tooling.
  • Production readiness: Move into the full-scale mold hardening with the parameters already locked in.

Once the process was proven on the sample, we moved to production, selectively hardening the molds to 56-58 HRC with a .050″ case depth. This targeted reinforcement ensures long-term durability under high-volume use.

Your Parts, Our Proof

We know every shop has different standards. While many of our customers go straight to production, we understand the need for confidence when you’re dealing with expensive tooling.

If you aren’t sure if laser hardening is the right fit for your components, send us a sample. We’ll harden a test piece so you can see the results and test the hardness firsthand.

Give your molds the edge they need to outlast the competition. Let’s work.
